Gotta Get At This: Lay's Guatemala Original with Tajin

Right now in Guatemala, Original flavor Lay's come with a packet of Tajin seasoning. Tajin is a seasoning from Mexico, it's made up of dried Chile peppers, dehydrated lime, and salt. It has a tangy flavor, and here in California people love to eat it on fruit (I often find it packaged inside my pre-sliced Mango containers with a fresh slice of lime).
The cool thing about this is that we can replicate it here in US, so if you are up for it, grab a bag of plain "Original" Lay's, and you can find Tajin at most shops that carry Mexican food. Just open the bag, season, and shake!

Contest: Lay's Argentina El Sabor De Ganar Flavors Available Now

Looks like the finalists of Lay's Argentina's "El Sabor De Ganar" (The Taste of Winning) contest just got their flavors out in stores. So let the hunt begin!! These 3 flavors will be voted on and one flavor will be victorious.
Once again the finalists are... "Cheddar" by Florencia, "Salsa Criolla" by Tato (Salsa Criolla is a salsa composed of sliced onions and cilantro, pickled beets, boiled potatoes, avocado, chili peppers and tomatoes), and "Hamburger" by Vanesa.

UPDATE: These are also being sold now at Burger King locations in Argentina! How fun! You can snag a bag with a combo instead of the usual French Fries. Great Idea!!

Contest: Lay's Belgium Maak Je Smaak 2013

It looks like the 2 finalists in the Maak Je Smaak (Make the Taste) Contest in Belgium are being decided on by a crew of judges. If I translate the page correctly it looks like these flavors will not be available until October 2013. I have no idea why it's going to take so long, but we'll see. Fingers crossed that Belgium has 2 delicious new flavors next Fall.

Gotta Get At This: Lay's Spain Xtra Onduladas

Here is another country launching the Deep Ridged style or Extra Wavy style chips. Spain has just launched "Xtra Onduladas" (Extra Wavy) in 3 yummy looking flavors. They come in "Cheeseburger", "Al Punto De Sal/Originais" aka "Original", and "American Barbecue". Cheeseburger is like my die hard favorite! Looks amazing! Another treasure to hunt down lol!

Contest: Lay's Argentina El Sabor De Ganar Finalists

The 3 finalists for Lay's Argentina's contest have finally been announced! The finalists are "Hamburger" by Vanesa, "Salsa Criolla" by Tato (Salsa Criolla is a salsa composed of sliced onions and cilantro, pickled beets, boiled potatoes, avocado, chili peppers and tomatoes), and "Cheddar" by Florencia. You can vote for your favorite now.
I'm not sure where it goes from there, I don't believe these flavors have been released yet, but I think they will all be available soon.

Gotta Get At This: Lay's Belgium Oven Crunchy Biscuits

These aren't chips, so I don't know how I feel about them, but they are New and currently available in Belgium. They are Oven baked Biscuits and come in 2 flavors, Tomato & Spring Onion, and Paprika & Mediterranean Herbs. They've got 40% less fat than other comparable biscuits, because they are baked. I love crackers and these actually sound DELICIOUS (mmm with some nice cheese, om nom nom). But it's interesting they are under the Lay's brand. Not too far of a reach though, so who knows, if they do well in Belgium maybe we can get them here in the states ;p

Gotta Get At This: Lay's Belgium & Netherlands Deep Ridged

New line of chips available in Belgium and the Netherlands! These are the Deep Ridged chips that seem to be gaining popularity in a few other countries. In the Netherlands the come in 3 flavors; "Naturel", "American BBQ", and "Sweet Chilli". They are available in only 2 flavors in Belgium; "American BBQ" and "Sweet Chilli". They are available now.

Contest: Walkers Do Us A Home Grown Flavour

Walkers is hosting their first new contest since the "What's This Flavour?" contest over a year ago. This time they are following the popular trend of having fans come up with the taste. They've taken from the US contest called "Do Us A Flavor" and put a local flavored twist on it by calling it "Do Us A Home Grown Flavour". This plays into Walkers recent revamp of all their flavors to highlight the home grown qualities. (Check out my blog about the new Home Grown packaging for more info). Basically, Walkers wants you to know, that not only are their potatoes grown in the UK, but they also use locally sourced cheeses, meats, and produce. Now, its your turn to put those beautiful local ingredients to good use and come up with a unique new flavor. Walkers judges will select 3 finalists, the winner will be voted for by UK citizens, and the they will win £5,000 GBP and have their bag sold exclusively in TESCO stores. This contest is only open to UK residents.
Can't wait to see what they come up with, Walkers are already pretty delicious, so I don't think they can do any wrong. My only complaint is, £5,000 is kind of a small prize when compared to what the US and Canada are going to give away in their respective contests... but seeing as this contest is scaled down to only TESCO stores, it kind of makes sense.
