Contest: Lay's Dominicana Cual Es El Sabor 2015 Mystery Bag Revealed

Wow yall, wow! Lay's Dominican Republic ACTUALLY released the details of a contest ending! Amazing!! (sarcasm sarcasm sarcasm) Good for the marketing team! They finally finished a job that they were hired to do. Aww!

Ok, everyone calm down!

The mystery bag flavor for the "Cual Es El Sabor?" (What is the flavor?) contest was released and the flavor is "Tomate y Herbas" (Tomato and Herb). The picture is a pic of a bowl of tomato soup or puree with basil on top. It's a flavor we see every once and a while, I know the US had a gross version of it called "Garden Tomato and Basil" and I just talked about Romania's "Tomato and Green Herbs" the other day. I could really care less about this flavor, I think the real victory here is that DR finally showed us the winner of a contest that they've promoted online. Because now if you want to buy it, you actually know it exists.

So, do you want to try it? Did you try the mystery bag? Did you guess right?

Contest: Lay's Dominicana and Guatemala Cual Es El Sabor 2015 Mystery Bags

Here's another new Guess the Flavor contest, this time happening in the Dominican Republic. Normally, I would be stoked to tell you guys about this, but I'm pretty certain that we will never actually find out what this mystery flavor is.
SEEE... I've actually ranted about the team behind Lay's in the Dominican Republic before... and while I've never tried their chips before, I can tell you their marketing is the worst. Just the worst.
In 2012 they ran a campaign similar to "Do Us A Flavor" where customers pick a winning fan flavor. But then they just stopped running the campaign online and up until this month their Facebook was just sitting there asking fans still to vote (just go on their FB and scroll down the last few photos to see the evidence). Then last year, they participated in the South American "Copa De Sabores" World Cup Flavor competition. The Dominican Republic page is STILL sitting there asking fans to vote and waiting for a Champion to be chosen, check that out here.
Now, out of the blue, after their FB has been idle for 3 years, Lay's Dominicana is finally announcing another new campaign.
Fans just need to buy the bag, taste it, and go to www.cualeselsabor.com to submit their flavor guesses. Guess right and win some $$$.
I love these contests, but I am not holding my breath that I'll ever find out what the flavor is.
So, why am I talking about it? Well, I still think it's something worth hunting down if you are passing through the Dominican Republic. Just because the marketing department needs help doesn't mean that the chips aren't fun or delicious.
So enjoy the hunt chip fans! and let us know in the comments what you think these taste like! I wanna know!!

UPDATE: as with many other contests DR has held, they have now added Guatemala to this contest. The 2 Countries now share a contest website which now blocks you out from the US and says "this site is inaccessible from your Country". Whether the flavors are the same in both regions, I'm not sure.

Contest: Lay's Greece Μάντεψε τη γεύση 2015 Mystery Bags Revealed!

It's that time! The time when we find out what deliciousy flavors other people got to eat! The 3 Mystery Bags released by Lay's Greece earlier this year have been revealed, and now we can see the bags were giving some little hints as to what was inside.
Bag 1 aka the Blue bag is Chicken Tikka Masala. The bag art actually showed off Chicken and several aromatics and vibrant spices. Chicken Tikka Masala is a very popular Indian inspired dish usually made with Roasted Chicken Cubes that are cooked in a decadent sauce made from tomato paste, chillies, and a variety of aromatics.

Bag 2 aka the Pink bag is Pizza Ntiavola, now, before you ask me what that is, I have to tell you I have no idea. Ntiavola is not a real word. I Googled it. If you search the word online, all that comes up is the Lay's Greece Facebook page, so I'm guessing it is slang for something. Regardless, I think we can use the bag art for some clues. It's a Pizza flavor and we see Tomato and Cheese, but there are also onions, chillies, and black peppercorns. I'll guess it's a spicy pizza. Either way, I've never met a Pizza flavored Chip that I didn't love, so I'm sure they are probably delish!

Bag 3 aka the Green Bag is Onion Tart. Again, now we see the bag had the clues all over it. I've never tried an Onion Tart, but that just sounds heavenly. I imagine the potato chip makes a great stand in for the tart crust, and if there is one flavor Lay's can always get right, it's onion. So this is probably awesome.

In the end, the 3 flavors were figured out by 3 Lay's fans who each went on to win 10,000 Euros. Not bad! I love this contest and would love to see it hit the States. What do yall think?

Contest: Lay's Greece Μάντεψε τη γεύση 2015 Mystery Bags

The thrill of the secret bags is coming to Greece! Greece has launched their Μάντεψε τη γεύση (Guess the Taste) Mystery Flavor contest. The rules are simple, Greek consumers can hit up their local shop that carries Lay's and pickup any of the 3 Mystery Bags; Purple, Blue, or Green. Then they are asked to guess the flavors and submit those guesses to www.LaysGuess.Gr And The bags might be giving up a couple of hints...
The Purple Bag (#2) shows off Tomato's and Peppers and Onions, The Blue Bag (#1) shows off Chicken and a variety of spices, and the Green Bag (#3) shows off Cheese and Scallions. Could these be the ingredients in each bag?
Each bag represents a dish created by award-winning Chef Hector Botrini. If you guess a flavor correctly you'll win 10,000 Euros. (NOT BADDD)

So, what do you think these could be? Have you tried one? Share your thoughts in the Comments below.

Contest: Lay's Netherlands Raad de Smaak 2014 Mystery Bags revealed!

Lay's Netherlands has revealed what the 3 mystery flavors were in their "Guess the flavor" competition.
The yellow bag was hinted as being a "Pittage" ("Spicy") flavor and it has been revealed
to be "Kaassoufle met chilisaus". 'Kaassoufle' is a popular Dutch street-food pastry filled with melted cheese inside a thin dough wrapper that is then breaded and deep-fried. 'Met Chilisaus' or 'with Chili Sauce' is pretty straight forward. So the yellow bag probably has the 'Chili and Cheese' or 'Spicy Queso' vibe.

The green bag was hinted as being a "Hartige"("Savory") flavor and has been revealed as "Hollands Stoofpotje". 'Stoofpatje' just means 'Stew', so this flavor is basically a "Dutch Stew"... I'm not really sure what that would consist of aside from Dutch Beef and root veggies. But, Stew is delicious, so this probably tastes beefy and comforting.

The final pink bag was hinted to be the "Zoet"("Sweet") flavor and has the most potential to be something we've never seen before. The flavor has been revealed to be "Dubbelvla choco vanille"... 'Vla' is a dutch custard like pudding (it's kinda like English Custard, it's kinda like American Pudding). Vla comes in many flavors, Vanilla, Chocolate, Orange, Holiday flavor, etc. They are sold in what look like milk cartons, and just poured into bowls and eaten alone or with whipped cream on top. 'Dubbelvla' is a flavor but it also means 'Double vla' and in this case it is "Double vla Chocolate & Vanilla". Much like here in America we have swirled Chocolate & Vanilla softserve ice cream, the Dutch enjoy the flavor combo in their pudding. And Lay's have paired that flavor with potato chips. Soooo, basically, this flavor is Chocolate & Vanilla chips. Ya. Sounds boring, but who knows, it could actually taste awesome.

I'd love to try them but I just don't see the opportunity arising. So, I've got to live vicariously through others. If you've gotten the chance to try these, let us know in the comments!
Anything here sound delicious or crazy to you? We'd love to know. Share your thoughts in the comments. Happy Hunting!

Contest: Lay's Romania Ghiceste I Numele 2014 Mystery Bags

Mystery Bags, oh , Mystery Bags... Romania is having a little fun with these too! They just launched the "Ghiceste i Numele" ("Guess the Name") contest. I'm digging how they borrowed the bag design from UK Walkers' 2012 "What's This Flavor" contest.
This contest is straight forward. Lay's Romania has concocted 3 magical flavors and released them in stores. Contestants go to their local potato chip vendor, buy the chips, taste the flavor, then they head over to Lay's Romania's Facebook page and enter a guess as to the name of the flavor. 3 winners will be selected and they will each earn 25,000 LEI (about $7,400 USD)... NICE!

Contest: Lay's Netherlands Raad de Smaak 2014 Mystery Bags

Mystery Bag contests are BACK y'all!! If you were getting sick of the "Do Us A Flavor" competitions around the world, you'll be happy to see Mystery Bag contests are being relaunched in a few countries.
Today, let's chat about the Netherlands. Their "Maak de Smaak" contest has been coming up with some AMAZING flavors for the last few years; "Patatje Joppie" won in 2011 and has since become a permanent and beloved flavor. So, it is a total surprise to see them suddenly switch the script and launch the "Raad de Smaak" contest. From my understanding, this is a mystery bag challenge, along the lines of "Guess the Flavor"... but that is NOT the direct translation... the direct translation is "Council the Taste" (see how language can be confusing lol).
You have the green bag which is the "Hartige" or "Savory" flavor. The yellow bag which is "Pittige" or "Spicy". And the Pink bag is "Zoet" or "Sweet". Contestants go to the shop, buy a bag, taste the bag, then they go online and submit a flavor for the bag. I'm guessing there will be 3 individual winners to this contest because the prize is listed as 3 x €10.000. That's a little over $13,000... NOT TOO BAD for just telling Lay's what flavor you think these are.
I like this contest, but in the States we're enjoying the "Do Us A Flavor" contest, and I'd like to see it stick around for at least another year before we start doing mystery bags. None the less, it's still fun to see what these other countries are coming up with in their magical labs. Can't wait to see what these end up being!

Have you tried these? What are your flavor guesses? Let us know in the comments section below!

Walkers What's This Flavour? Mystery Flavours Revealed!

Alright kids, time to hear what yummyness we've been missing across the pond!
Mystery A, or the cheese flavor, ended up being Sour Cream and Spring Onion. They don't offer that flavor regularly in the UK but over here in the USA it's a staple, so we're not missing out on anything too novel.
Mystery B, aka the meat flavor, was revealed to be Lincolnshire Sausage and Brown Sauce, which sounds HELLA British. I don't know what "brown sauce" constitutes... or what the difference is between Lincolnshire and any other Sausage... but I def want to try this one if I have a chance.
Mystery C, what is known as the Indian flavor, ended up being Birmingham Chicken Balti. I tried to google it and that seems to be a curry of some sort, but I really don't know what this is. I guessed Chicken though when I tried this bag, so Ima pat myself on the shoulder lol.

This was a fun little competition.

Walkers UK What's This Flavour? Mystery Flavour C

Well kids, I was able to track down at least one of these Mystery Flavor Walkers! Here is Mystery Flavour C. Around the net had already given up that this was possibly a curry flavor, and as soon as the bag was opened I breathed in "Indian food" smell. Listen, I live in Southern California, and as much as this place is a melting pot, Indian food is just NOT something you can get here. I've eaten very little Indian food in my life. So, right off the bat, I am poorly qualified to tell you what flavor this bag is. Here is what I can tell you, right away my friend and I both called out Chicken dishes. I said some sort of Butter chicken, and he called out Tandori. The spice mix was vibrant, sweet, and hearty. Very complex for a chip seasoning. It has a nice, super subtle, low and bright heat. Aside from that I can't say more.
All in all, a fun bag. Has everything you love from Walkers; excellent potatoes and even, delicate spicing. If you like Indian food it will be something you're bound to love. Tonight is the last chance to submit your guess to Walkers to win the 50,000 Euro prize... so I will update this post soon with what the flavor actually is. I hope I'm close!

UPDATE: This flavor was.... "Birmingham Chicken Balti"! I have no idea what that is but YAYY! for me! I got the Chicken part right! Suckas!
