Gotta Get At This: Lay's Peru Apasionados Por Nuestros Sabores Competition Papa a la Huancaína and Lomo Saltado

Peru is running a fun flavor contest called "Apasionados por nuestros sabores" aka "Passionate for our flavors". It seems to be a voting competition between 2 typical Peruvian flavors: "Papa a la Huancaina" and "Lomo Saltado".
"Papa a la Huancaina" is a dish that derived from the Peruvian Highlands; a cold dish of yellow potatoes, served with Huancaina sauce which is a cheese based sauce. The potatoes are usually served on a bed of lettuce and come with Olives on top.
"Lomo Saltado" is a yummy dish of stir fried steak strips with bell peppers and onions, that comes with thick cut french fries on the side.
I love that both of these flavors come with potato on the plate; that is usually a good sign of a successful flavor in the bag.
The contest started running this month, so both bags should be available now in Peru.

Gotta Get At This: Lay's Peru Chancho al Palo

"Chancho al Palo" is a new flavor from Lay's Peru. It is an open flamed "Roast Pork" flavor. Peru usually get awesome, authentic local flavors for their chips. I bet these are the BOMB. Have you tried these yet? Do you want to? The hunt begins for me!

Contest: World Cup Round-Up - Colombia, Perú, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, Egypt, Arabia, & Chile... and a little Ranting!

Ima put this out there right now. Some of these companies should be ashamed by how bad their online presence is. ASHAMED. The World Cup has been over for like 3 months now, however, 6 of these countries started World Cup contests and just never revealed who the winners were on their shared website. Peru, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Panama, El Salvador, and Honduras; they don't really have websites to begin with, but they launched a beautiful interactive site that was tracking the winners of each round of this contest. I kid you not, go on it right now, it's lovely but that damn site does not say who the winners are (www.copadesabores.com). Guatemala and Peru at least have functioning Facebook pages, and with a little digging I found that they did in fact announce winners on those pages (albeit the announcement was 1 picture hidden away on the timelines). This has actually happened before with Lay's Dominicana, they announced a previous contest online and then never announced the winner... check it out on Facebook, as that page is still showing off pictures from that unresolved contest. Whoever is handling South America's online marketing just needs to get it together... FOR REAL. Go look at how Margarita from Colombia handles their business. Flawlessly, they maintain a nice website, update their Facebook, and interact via Twitter and Instagram. I don't understand how it's that hard for the others to simply update a website that they've already had built.

ok. So, let's talk about the contests that did have winners... and I apologize that it took SO long to share this info. I had really tried to be patient and 'round-up' all the winners in one post.

The only country from South America that actually announced their winner on their website was Colombia and their Margarita Chips. The winner was "Colombia Chorizo con Limon" (Chorizo and Lime). Voters chose to keep it Patriotic, and it's no surprise... Colombia had their most impressive World Cup EVER this year... plus the flavor sounds delish! This flavor is still available for a limited time in Colombia. Grab it while you can.

 Chipsy Egypt and Lay's Arabia shared their Flavor Cup and selected "Brazillian BBQ" as their winner. No surprise there. Not only does that sound yummy. But Brazil did an amazing job of hosting the World Cup and capturing the World's heart.

Chile also went Patriotic with their "Chile Enselada Chilena" and it sounds unique and tasty. I love a good acidic bag of chips. mmm.

Peru went Patriotic as well and chose "Peru Pollo a la Brasa" (Rotisserie Chicken). Can't complain, Chicken is da bomb! Good choice.

Guatemala  was swayed by flavor and chose "Suecia Queso con Especias" (Sweden Cheese with Spices). Can't go wrong with Cheese. Can't go wrong with Spices. The duo sounds awesome.

 Dominican Republic, Panama, El Salvador, and Honduras basically don't have any online presence, so if you know what flavors they ended up choosing, I'd love to know. Share it down below!

All the winners should still be available for a limited time in the Countries that conducted the contests. If you're interested in these, I'd say try to find them soon since like I said, this article is coming a bit late. Contest: Lay's Perú Copa De Los Sabores Round 3

Tricky, Tricky, Lay's Peru. Hilariously, Peru announced that the only flavor in Round 3 of their Copa De Los Sabores contest would be the "Peru" flavor; "Pollo a la Brasa" (Rotisserie Chicken). This means The flavor representative of the host nation moves instantly to the final round against last round winner Brazil and 1st round winner Italy. Well played Peru, well played.

Contest: Lay's Perú Copa De Los Sabores Round 2

Who is ready for Round 2?? With Italy's "Pizza" winning Round 1, Peru has released the flavors for the next stage. France's "Queso Gratinado", which is basically baked Cheese, and Brazil's "Al Estilo Rodizio" which I guess is Peru's way of saying "Rotisserie Barbecue" which is basically the same flavor every country has for Brazil; "Brazilian Barbecue" or "Churrasco". The flavor has proved popular, so it could take the round. But, I get more excited about the new stuff. So France's weird Cheese Gratin thing sounds pretty awesome lol.

Contest: Lay's Perú Copa De Los Sabores

Tired of the same old Contest? Ya, we kind of are too. That's why I got very excited to see that Peru is changing the game and introducing the "Copa De Los Sabores" ["Flavor Cup"]. This contest pits nation against nation for votes. Italy's "Pizza" vs Argentina's "Strip Steak". Peruvians can vote online for their favorite after giving them a taste off the shelves. Both flavors are classic contest flavors, and are always a fun change of pace to the traditional shelf flavors. But the standout here is the cute packaging and fun contest. I love that the bag is reflective of the nation's flag, and the food looks yummy and makes you want to pop the bag open.

UPDATE 2: Round 1 Winner was Italian "Pizza". The contest consists of 3 Rounds; Italia v Argentina was Round 1, Round 2 will be 2 new flavors, and Round 3 will be the winners of R1 & R2.

Contest: Lay's Perú Un Sabor Para Ganar Winner

Lay's Peru has a winner! Of the 3 finalists in Peru's create-a-flavor contest, Maria's "Con Toques De Oregano y Queso" ("With a Touch of Oregano and Cheese") was the Victor. No big surprise there, as Oregano is fricking delicious! In 2nd place was BBQ and last place went to Peruvian Chili. Again, no surprise, BBQ is nothing special, and Peruvian Aji Chili already exists in the high end Lay's line.
Normally, here, I'd tell you to go get the loser bags before they disappear... but honestly, the most unique bag won. So, who cares, take your time and see if you can snag the Winner!

Contest: Lay's Perú Un Sabor Para Ganar Finalists

 Lay's Peru has announced the 3 finalists in their current Create-a-Flavor contest; Un Sabor Para Ganar.
The 3 Flavors announced are "Con Toques De Oregano Y Queso", "Aji Peruano", and "A La Parrilla". Peruvians can go on Lay's Website in Peru and vote for their favorite starting today, and the winner will be available on shelves for a year. The finalists chosen were able to go online earlier this year and create their flavor and also had the fun opportunity to choose the bag color too.

 Alexander came up with "A La Parilla". "A La Parrilla" means 'On The Grill' or 'Grilled' or 'Barbecue', and I'm guessing by the picture we are talking about Beef. This bag is made a bit more unique by being "Ondas" which is Peru's version of "Ruffles".

 Maria's creation is "Con Toques De Oregano Y Queso" which means "Touch of Oregano and Cheese". That sounds tremendous! Yum! I love Oregano! Maria says she thought of it because her kids love the smell of melted cheese and oregano on Pizza night. Listen, I don't know a single person on earth who doesn't love that smell. I hope, for the sake of Peru that this tastes as good as it sounds. MMM.

Lastly we have Cesar's concoction "Aji Peruano". Peruvian Aji are Peppers native to Peru. Lay's Peru does actually already make this flavor in their "Peruanísimas" line, a line of chips made with native potatoes, in this case yellow, but sometimes blue, etc. That line is devoted to native Peruvian flavors and ingredients. But it looks like Cesar's flavor will bring that inspiration to the standard Lay's line.

Another day, Another contest!
Lay's Peru is hosting their own create-a-flavor contest now; "Un Sabor Para Ganar!" or "A Flavor to Win!"
If you live in Peru, just go on http://www.lays.com.pe/ and enter. Peru already has some pretty interesting flavors in their range and they use all sorts of different Peruvian potatoes in some of their lines, so it seems they are bound to come up with some extraordinary flavors.
Not only are they using the cutting board logo for this contest (which started here in the USA with our first create-a-flavor contest), but they will also now be using the new US style bag with the colored edges and white center that we saw Cheesy Garlic Bread etc wearing. On the contest interface the contestants can select the color for the packaging, colors that include Orange, Green, Purple, and Royal Blue. Then just type in the Flavor and Description, and submit. The site does not, however, support putting an image of the related food item on the bag. Still, this is another chance to grab some new flavors! So, Rejoice!

Gotta Get At This: Lay's Peru Salsa Mania

 

Lay's Peru has just started running a new promotion known as "Salsa Mania"! Salsa Mania brings sauce packets like Ketchup and Mayo inside your bag of Classic Salt Lay's.

Step 2: Look for your favorite sauce

Step 3: Put sauce on your Lay's

Step 4: Enjoy them how you like!

Each bag of chips contains one surprise sauce packet. The 3 sauces you can stumble across are Mustard, Ketchup, and Hot Sauce.

If this promotion sounds familiar, you may have seen it in some other South American nations. Youtube has some old commercials from some country enjoying Salsa Mania on ridged Lay's. I'm not sure what country it is.... and I would LOVE to know! But this is the first time the promotion has made it's way to Peru.

Gotta Get At This: Lay's Peruanisimas Brasa y Tradicion

Here's a bag that's been out since April but I wasn't sure if it was new until I read it on Twitter. It's from Lay's Peru's "Peruanisimas" line of chips made from 100% Peruvian potatoes. The flavors in this line are usually produced by famed Peruvian chefs and are based on traditional Peruvian meals. This particular bag is flavored "Brasa y Tradicion" and is based on the famed Pollo a la Brasa meal (or Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken in English). The dish combines a Peruvian spiced  Roast Chicken with thick-cut crispy french fries... which means the flavors probably convert to an amazing bag of chips.
It's cool to see a range of chips that specifically focus a nation's food history, especially for an outsider to a culture looking for a crash course in what makes that regional cuisine unique.
The rest of the line includes flavors like: Sazón Norteña (Northern Seasonings... based on a rice with duck dish), Pasión al Carbón (Passion on the Grill... based on Creole spiced grilled Beef skewers), Andinas (which are made from Purple and Yellow Marbled potatoes from the Andes Mountains with Salt), and a secondary line of basic seasonings (Salt, Rocoto Pepper, and Native Pepper) on Yellow Peruvian potatoes.
